Metallica: Death Magnetic Review PDF Print E-mail

Death Magnetic CD cover artSo here we are again, more than five years after a whole slew of you ripped me a new one for my enthusiastic review of the last and most controversial METALLICA album ever, 2003's "St. Anger". Unlike many critics — especially in the UK press — who came out equally unabashed in their praise only to later recant their words in the wake of a fierce fan uprising against the album, I stand by my statements at the time: I think "St. Anger" was a great album. If I am to add one caveat to that, one slight revision, I would say now that it was and is a great album — for what it was.

St. Dennis: The King of all Beer Tents PDF Print E-mail

Last weekend I hooked up with Eugene, Dan Maki and Kevin Smith to take in the St. Dennis Festival.

As far as beer tents go... it's the best I've been to.  Ever.  I say that probably because I grew up on the east side of Madison and it's like a small class reunion there every year.  Actually, not really a class reunion, but more of a reunion of people that I've met over the years who drink at east side bars.  Anyway, it was a blast.  First time in a long time I'd been out with Eug and it was fun.  We ended up at the Horseshoe Bar... what a place.

Got up the next day and headed to Miller Park for a Brewer game.  Feeling good...

Class Reunion 1988/2008 PDF Print E-mail

I had the pleasure of DJing the East High School class of 1988 20th class reunion over the weekend. Wow, what a great time!

Madison East Senior High SchoolThe reunion was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Madison. Very nice room for the event, good food, free beer and of course... MUSIC!

Things got off to a slow start while everyone chatted. I think they needed a little alcohol as well. By about 10 pm though the joints were loose and everyone started to party hard. There was one bump in the road when I played Kid Rock's "Too Hot" (maybe not enough people knew the song?), but aside from that... it's was lights out!

I think from a personal perspective it was one of my, if not my best, gig in regard to working the crowd. I think I done good. : )

P.S. I won a cookbook at the silent auction titled "There's a Purgolder in the Kitchen".  Nice.

Dinner Club Goes Jamaican PDF Print E-mail

Last night Carleen and I hosted "dinner club." We choose a Jamaican theme and things went pretty well.

I say "pretty well" because my Blackened Catfish didn't turn out as planned. Good, but not great. The Jerk Ribeyes were AWESOME and ironically, the Habenero sauce that I made to serve with them that I thought was going to suck, was the hit of the meal. Well, that and the salsa or veggie/fruit salad that was served with the catfish.

We served Manchego cheese, Serrano ham, chips and peach mango salsa.  In addition to the steaks and catfish the main course also included Jerk Chicken Kabobs and Potatas with Bravas sauce.

At the bar we served Rum Runners, Purple Meanie's and Mojitos. And for the beer lovers... Red Strip all night long.  No complaints from the bar.

Overall, I thought Carly and I did very well.
